Ede to Host 19th Egalitarian Soccer Championship in August 2025

The 19th edition of the Unique Egalitarian Soccer Championship, popularly known as the Southwest World Cup, is set to take center stage in Ede, Osun State in August 2025.

Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s top grassroots football tournaments, the championship returns this year with renewed energy, a more structured format, and a stronger commitment to talent development and fair competition.

This year’s edition is expected to attract clubs and players from across the Southwest and beyond, offering not just exciting football action, but also a vital platform for scouting and career growth. With its dual focus on unity and opportunity, the Egalitarian Championship has become a key fixture in Nigeria’s football calendar.

Organizers have confirmed that the event will feature six major categories under a comprehensive 6-in-1 competition format, ensuring broad participation across different age groups and gender.

Tournament Categories and Dates:

Free-Age Men (Open to all male players)

  • August 14 – 28, 2025
  • Registration: ₦45,000
     

Free-Age Women (Open to all female players)

  • August 30 – September 7, 2025
  • Registration: ₦20,000

 Under-16 Boys (Screening by facial appearance only)

  • August 30 – September 7, 2025
  • Registration: ₦25,000

 Under-14 Boys (Screening by facial appearance only)

  • August 2 – 12, 2025
  • Registration: ₦20,000

 Under-13 Boys (Max height: 1.53m | Max weight: 42kg | Facial verification required)

  • August 2 – 12, 2025
  • Registration: ₦15,000
     

Under-10 Boys (Max height: 1.47m | Max weight: 35kg | Facial verification required)

  • August 2 – 12, 2025
  • Registration: ₦10,000

 To uphold integrity and fairness, organizers have implemented strict screening procedures and a zero-tolerance policy on age cheating and physical misrepresentation. Any player exhibiting over-aged features, beards (even if shaved), or flashy hairstyles will be disqualified.

Players displaying poor attitudes during the screening process will also not be considered. Only those who meet all eligibility criteria and display professionalism will be cleared to compete.The screening panel, comprising experienced coaches and football experts will operate without bias. Coaches are strongly warned against lobbying or interference.

“This is more than a tournament; it’s a mission to redefine grassroots football culture in Nigeria,” said Technical Director Akin Oyedunmola. “We are committed to clean, fair, and forward-looking football. Teams that cannot meet these standards are advised not to register.”

With the Egalitarian Championship gaining recognition as a vital scouting and development platform, the 2025 edition promises to set new standards in grassroots football excellence.
