Doosuur, Uwah set for final-day Golden Boot showdown

Posted : 14 June 2026

The race for the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Golden Boot is set for a dramatic conclusion, with four players still in contention heading into the final round of the Super Six playoffs in Port Harcourt.

While attention will largely focus on the battle for the league title, the contest for the division's top scorer award promises to be equally captivating as the season reaches its climax.

Rivers Angels striker Abasiofon Uwah and Edo Queens forward Atume Doosuur currently share the lead on 13 goals each after enjoying prolific campaigns for their respective clubs.

Both players have consistently delivered when it mattered most and now stand one match away from claiming one of the league's most coveted individual honours.

Doosuur will have the opportunity to strengthen her position when league leaders Edo Queens face defending champions Bayelsa Queens in a decisive South-South derby.

The striker has been instrumental to Edo Queens' title challenge and could complete a memorable double by helping her side lift the trophy while emerging as the league's highest scorer.

Her teammate, Chioma Moses, remains an outside contender with 11 goals. The forward will be hoping for a strong final-day performance to close the gap on the leading duo and potentially spring a surprise in the race.

Uwah, meanwhile, will look to use home advantage to her benefit when Rivers Angels take on Nasarawa Amazons.

The forward has enjoyed a breakthrough season and knows that another goal-scoring display could see her finish the campaign alone at the summit of the scoring charts.

However, the Rivers Angels attacker faces a stern challenge against a Nasarawa Amazons side that still harbours ambitions of finishing the season on a high.

FC Robo Queens striker Oluwakemi Adegbuyi is also mathematically in the race. The Lagos-based forward has scored 11 goals this season and will require a prolific outing against Abia Angels to challenge the frontrunners.

A hat-trick on the final day could potentially propel her above the current leaders, depending on results elsewhere.

Golden Boot standings before the final round:

Player| Club| Goals Abasiofon Uwah| Rivers Angels| 13 Atume Doosuur| Edo Queens| 13 Oluwakemi Adegbuyi| FC Robo Queens| 11 Chioma Moses| Edo Queens| 11

With the championship, continental qualification aspirations, and individual accolades all still at stake, the final day of the NWFL Premiership Super Six promises a fittingly thrilling end to an enthralling 2025/26 season.

The intense competition among the league's top goal scorers guarantees that football fans will be treated to exceptional displays of skill and determination on the pitch. As the matches unfold, the pressure will be on each contender to seize their opportunities and etch their name into NWFL history.
