Doma United sign experienced goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius on free transfer

Posted : 12 August 2026

Doma United have completed the signing of experienced goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius on a free transfer ahead of their return to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL. The 37-year-old joins the Savannah Tigers after his contract with Rivers United expired on June 30, 2026. Transfer records confirm that Pius spent the 2025/26 campaign with Rivers United and that his contract ended at the close of June.

Pius brings considerable experience to Doma United as the club prepares for its return to Nigeria's top flight. The goalkeeper has previously represented Plateau United, Abia Warriors, Wikki Tourists and Kano Pillars during his NPFL career.

His move to Doma United comes after a limited role at Rivers United last season. Transfer records show that Pius made one NPFL appearance for the Port Harcourt club during the 2025/26 campaign, playing the full 90 minutes in a 4-2 victory over Kun Khalifat on March 29.

Despite his reduced playing time last season, Pius remains one of the more experienced goalkeepers in the domestic game. His previous spells with several established NPFL clubs have given him extensive knowledge of the league and its demands.

Doma United will hope that experience can strengthen their goalkeeping department as they prepare for another top-flight campaign. The Gombe-based club secured promotion from the Nigeria National League, NNL, in March after beating Mighty Jets 2-0 at the Pantami Stadium.

The promotion marked Doma United's return to the NPFL after their relegation at the end of the 2023/24 season. They finished top of NNL Conference C with 26 points from 13 matches when promotion was confirmed.

The club has also moved to strengthen its technical structure ahead of the new campaign. Former Enyimba coach Deji Ayeni was unveiled as technical adviser in June as Doma United began preparations for their return to the elite division.

Doma United are among four clubs promoted to the 2026/27 NPFL season, alongside Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos and Ranchers Bees. The NPFL has formally inducted all four clubs ahead of the new campaign.

Pius is expected to provide valuable competition and leadership in goal as Doma United adjust to the demands of top-flight football. The Savannah Tigers are scheduled to begin their 2026/27 NPFL campaign at home against Sporting Lagos, giving the experienced goalkeeper an early chance to make his mark with his new club.
