Doma United Receive Major Boost as Benedict Adikwu Returns from Injury

Doma United have received a timely boost ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season after defender Benedict Adikwu returned from a lengthy injury layoff. The experienced centre-back has rejoined his teammates for pre-season preparations as the Savannah Tigers continue to build towards their top-flight return.

Adikwu played a key role in Doma United's successful promotion campaign last season. His leadership and defensive consistency helped the Gombe-based club secure a place back in the NPFL after competing in the Nigeria National League.

The defender's return is expected to strengthen a squad preparing for the challenges of Nigeria's top division. His experience, organisation at the back, and familiarity with the club's playing style are viewed as valuable assets as new head coach Deji Ayeni works to shape his team for the new campaign.

Club officials, the technical crew, teammates, and supporters have all welcomed Adikwu back to full training. They believe his presence will improve competition for places and provide stability to a defence that will face tougher opposition in the NPFL this season.

Doma United have already begun intensive pre-season activities and are among the clubs participating in the Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select Pre-Season Tournament in Enugu. The competition offers teams an opportunity to assess tactical plans, improve fitness, and integrate returning players before the league season begins.

The Savannah Tigers are entering the new season with renewed ambition after appointing Deji Ayeni as head coach earlier this year. The experienced tactician has been tasked with guiding the club to a successful return to the NPFL and establishing Doma United as a competitive force in the division.

Adikwu's recovery comes at an important stage of preparations. His availability gives Ayeni another reliable defensive option as the club continues to fine-tune its squad through pre-season fixtures. If he regains full match fitness quickly, the defender could play a significant role in helping Doma United pursue their objective of securing a strong start to life back in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
