Doma United Maintain Perfect Start as TICO SELECT Tournament Gathers Momentum

Doma United continued their impressive run at the 2026 Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO SELECT Pre-season Tournament in Enugu, defeating former champions Great Achievers 3-0 on Day Two of the competition.

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side underlined their credentials with a commanding performance, scoring once before the interval before adding two further goals in the second half.

Great Achievers held their own during the opening 30 minutes, pushing forward in search of opportunities, but Doma United gradually took control after exploiting spaces in the former champions’ defence.

The victory keeps the Savannah Tigers unbeaten and further strengthens their position as one of the teams to beat in the pre-season tournament.

The result also sets up an intriguing next phase of the competition, with Doma United expected to face stronger challenges as teams battle for progression.

Elsewhere, Ingas FC and Abakaliki Elite settled for a goalless draw, while the encounter between Elite and U.C Diamond was abandoned following a heavy downpour.

C&C Football Academy of Awo-Omamma also produced a promising display despite being held to a 1-1 draw by NLO 1 side Igho FC of Delta.

The academy, popularly known as the “Chief Boys”, took the lead in the 14th minute through Chika Chika, who produced a spectacular volley to give his side an early advantage.

C&C dominated large portions of the game and created several opportunities but failed to extend their lead, a missed opportunity that Igho FC punished when they equalised in the 70th minute.

Despite surrendering the lead, C&C Academy’s performance provided further evidence of the talent within the young side as they continue to test themselves against more experienced opposition.

The academy was subsequently presented with official match balls by the tournament organisers.

The items were received by Team Manager Amanfor Chimezie, a former Enyimba and Rangers player who won consecutive Federation Cup titles in 2013 and 2014, as well as back-to-back NPFL championships in 2015 and 2016.

Chimezie praised the Local Organising Committee for the quality of the tournament and its commitment to providing opportunities for emerging players despite the late withdrawal of some participating teams.

“I want to appreciate the organisers for giving our academy this rare opportunity to rub shoulders with the big boys,” he said.

“We are hoping for even better outings as the tournament progresses. Thank you, and God bless everyone working tirelessly to develop football in Nigeria.”

The Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO SELECT Pre-season Tournament continues this week with more fixtures as participating clubs step up their preparations for the new football season.

The tournament continues to provide valuable competitive exposure for clubs and emerging talents, helping teams fine-tune their squads ahead of the new campaign while showcasing the depth of Nigerian football.
