Doma United FC's Nelson Abiam emerged as a cult hero on Saturday, etching his name in the annals of football history with a last-minute bicycle kick that salvaged his team from a home defeat against continental football-playing Rivers United FC.

The thrilling encounter concluded with both teams sharing points at the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 19, hosted at the renowned Pantami Stadium in Gombe.

The first half witnessed Bernard Kouassi breaking the deadlock for Rivers United with a skillful finish, capitalizing on a beautifully executed corner attacking play. Sadiq Abubakar provided the crucial assist, setting the stage for Rivers United to take an early lead.

However, the Pride of Rivers had a potential second goal disallowed by the match officials. In the 43rd minute, Alex Oyowah found the back of the net, celebrating what seemed to be a valid goal.

Unfortunately, the assistant referee insisted that the ball was out of play in the build-up to the goal, leading to the cancellation of the score.

The game reached its climax with Doma United's Nelson Abiam stealing the spotlight. His spectacular last-minute bicycle kick not only rescued his team from an impending home defeat but also secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against the formidable Rivers United FC.

The electrifying contest showcased the resilience and determination of both teams on the NPFL stage.
