Doma United FC suffers heaviest defeat in Aba

Posted : 14 January 2024

Doma United FC's league title aspirations once again suffered a setback as they traveled to Aba for the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 18, ending in an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Abia Warriors.

Match Day 18 can't be forgotten easily, as a more determined Abia Warriors FC started like wildfire right from the first whistle.

Doma United FC was only lucky in the 16th minute to clear a goal-mouth scramble that could have been the first goal, only to end in a throw-in for the Warriors.

Abia Warriors got the breakthrough in the 43rd minute through a well-taken penalty by Anaemena Ifeanyi after Megwo Sunday was clumsily brought down in the 18-yard box by a Doma United FC player.

The first half ended with a lead for Abia Warriors.

Forty-nine minutes into the second half, Megwo Sunday and Onu Emmanuel once again combined beautifully as Emmanuel delivered a delightful pass that ended on the path of Sunday to slot in for the second goal.

Abia Warriors Coach, Erasmus Onuh, introduced a newly promoted youth player, Sagir Musa, who made his debut, replacing Samson Obi. The double substitution was completed with Paschal Nwabueze coming in for Meme Okike.

Abia Warriors sealed the victory of the evening as Ojonugwa Adejoh made it four. Arinze Ogbonna's long-range shot found Njoku Augustine, who assisted in setting up a good wrap-up against the league title-seeking Savannah Tigers, who continued with a blunt attacking force.
