Dogo takes charge at Niger Tornadoes, targets continental qualification

Posted : 03 July 2026

Niger Tornadoes have ushered in a new era with the appointment of experienced Nigeria Premier Football League coach Kabiru Suleiman Dogo as the club's new Technical Adviser on a three-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The former Lobi Stars, Kwara United, Nasarawa United, and Sunshine Stars handler replaces long-serving coach Mohammed Majin and has been handed the responsibility of leading the Ikon Allah Boys to a continental ticket.

Dogo was officially unveiled at the Niger State Ministry of Sports Development in Minna during a ceremony attended by government officials and members of the club's management.

The seasoned tactician is currently leading El-Kanemi Warriors to the 2026 President Federation Cup final, where they will face Ikorodu City on Saturday.

Speaking at the unveiling, the Permanent Secretary of the Niger State Ministry of Sports Development, Nuhu Garba Ngaski, described Dogo's appointment as a major step in line with the "New Niger" vision of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago.

Ngaski said the state government remains committed to repositioning Niger Tornadoes as one of the country's leading clubs and assured the new coach of the government's support in achieving sustained success.

He urged the Technical Adviser and the club's management to work together towards securing a continental qualification place, describing the club as a source of pride for the people of Niger State.

Club Chairman Abubakar Abdullahi Kuso reaffirmed the management's ambition of finishing in the continental qualification positions during the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign.

Kuso also disclosed that Niger Tornadoes will play their home matches at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna, adding that renovation work on the facility will resume immediately and be completed before the new league season begins in August.

Reacting to his appointment, Dogo expressed gratitude to the club's management and the Niger State Government for the opportunity to lead the team.

He promised to assemble a competitive squad capable of meeting the club's lofty ambitions and assured supporters that they would witness a rejuvenated Niger Tornadoes side under his leadership.

The appointment marks a definitive statement of intent from the Niger State Government and the club's management. With a proven track record across top-flight Nigerian football, the incoming technical adviser holds the strategic experience required to elevate the team. As infrastructure upgrades commence in Minna, the Ikon Allah Boys appear structurally and technically positioned to challenge for a historic continental campaign.
