Director states Wrexham eager for permanent deal with Arsenal goalkeeper

Posted : 24 April 2024

Wrexham, newly promoted to English League One, eagerly seeks to secure Anglo-Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a permanent deal this summer, as confirmed by the club's executive director Humphrey Ker.

The 22-year-old has showcased his talent during his loan spell at Wrexham from Arsenal this season, earning praise under the management of Phil Parkinson.

With his contract at Arsenal expiring soon, Okonkwo is expected to draw interest from various clubs, prompting Wrexham's keenness to retain him permanently.

Ker humorously mentioned his protective approach towards Okonkwo at the EFL awards, jokingly stating that he had to "man-mark" the goalkeeper to prevent other clubs from engaging in discussions with him.

Highlighting the significance of Okonkwo's regular first-team experience, Ker emphasized Wrexham's commitment to providing a conducive environment for his development under Parkinson's guidance.

Despite anticipated competition from other clubs, Ker believes that Wrexham's recent ascension in the football hierarchy renders them an appealing choice for Okonkwo.

Interest in Okonkwo extends beyond domestic borders, with reports suggesting attention from Premier League, Championship, and European clubs.

Having been associated with Arsenal since his U9 days, Okonkwo's potential departure marks a significant transition in his career, potentially opening doors to new opportunities and challenges.
