Delta Queens FC have signaled a bold step toward youth development and long-term success with the acquisition of 16-year-old standout defender Pattra Chidera Oparanmegwa—one of the hottest teenage prospects in Nigerian women’s football.
The teenager from Imo State has attracted national attention over the past year, thanks to her blend of technical quality and maturity far beyond her age.
Her recent performances have made her one of the most talked-about young defenders in the country, and Delta Queens believe they have secured a generational talent.
Chidera arrives with an impressive list of achievements. She finished as top scorer in the NWFL Championship with 5 goals and 7 assists, and earned the MVP award from the Soccer Queens Organisation in the 2025 NWFL Championship.
She has also collected multiple gold medals from the National Sports Festival and the NDDC Sports Festival—further confirming her status as a rising star.
Though she plays as a defender, her skillset mirrors that of a complete footballer: deadly free-kicks, crisp long-range passing, strong aerial presence, precision shooting, and excellent ball retention. Her reading of the game and interception ability have made her one of the most exciting young defenders to emerge in recent years.
Dreaming big is part of her personality. Chidera hopes one day to represent the Super Falcons and eventually feature for European heavyweights like Barcelona or Lyon. She counts England international Hannah Blundell among her role models.
Away from football, she is known for her calm personality and simple interests—books, travel, meeting new people and music. Her favorite meal? Okro soup with garri, which she jokingly describes as her “secret energy source.”
Delta Queens say the signing represents more than just squad strengthening—it reflects their ambition to build a team capable of dominating the league.
“We believe Pattra is an outstanding addition,” a club official stated. “Her attitude, quality, and hunger for growth align perfectly with what we are building.”
Chidera is already thinking big about the challenge ahead. “I’m excited to join Delta Queens. I’m ready to give my best and help the team achieve great things,” she said.
As the new NWFL season kicks off today, all eyes will be on her. Delta Queens have not just added a player—they have secured a symbol of the future of Nigerian women’s football. And if her journey so far is anything to go by, the league is about to witness something special.
