Delta Queens and Edo Queens recorded impressive victories as competition intensified on the second day of the 2026 Governor Diri Pre-Season Football Tournament in Yenagoa.
The tournament, which features 10 women’s teams, is providing the participating clubs with valuable preparation ahead of the new Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season.
At the Golf Pitch, Onopa, Delta Queens produced one of the biggest results of the day, defeating Imo Strikers 4-2 in a six-goal encounter.
Amara Chukwu opened the scoring for Delta Queens in the 38th minute before Adams Ogaga doubled the advantage four minutes later.
Oduoke Kikilomo and Samson Wariea further stretched Delta Queens’ lead with goals in the 47th and 51st minutes, respectively.
Imo Strikers responded through Oyenzu Chiamaka in the 71st minute, while Mamaeze Adanna added another goal two minutes later, but Delta Queens held on for victory.
Reigning league champions Edo Queens also registered their first victory of the tournament, defeating C2E Sports Academy of Aba 3-0.
Mamudu Mary was the difference for Edo Queens, scoring in the 20th and 55th minutes before Dominance Odudanjo completed the victory with an 89th-minute strike.
Ahudiyanem Queens of Abia State also maintained their impressive run, coming from behind to defeat Remo Stars Ladies 2-1.
Remo Stars took the lead through Agams Nkechi in the 23rd minute, but Owoeye Remilope restored parity shortly before halftime.
Fankule Oluwaseun then completed the turnaround in the 73rd minute to hand Ahudiyanem Queens another victory.
At the Samson Siasia Stadium, Rivers Angels were held to a goalless draw by Enugu Rangers Ladies in the final fixture of the day.
The result reflected a closely contested encounter, as both sides struggled to find the breakthrough despite their efforts.
Earlier, Bayelsa Queens defeated Imo Strikers 2-0, while Delta Queens and Edo Queens played out a goalless draw in another encounter at the stadium.
At the Onopa centre, Nasarawa Amazons suffered a narrow defeat to Ahudiyanem FC, while Rivers Angels and Remo Stars Ladies also settled for a goalless draw.
The tournament, which is designed to help clubs assess their squads and sharpen their tactical preparations, will continue on Monday, October 5.
Rangers Ladies will take on Ahudiyanem Queens at 8:00 a.m., followed by Nasarawa Amazons against Remo Stars Ladies at 10:00 a.m.
C2E Sports Academy will face Imo Strikers at 1:00 p.m., while hosts Bayelsa Queens will meet neighbours Delta Queens at 3:00 p.m.
All Monday’s matches will be played at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, as the participating teams continue their preparations for the new NWFL campaign.
