Delta Queens have entered a new chapter in their 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership campaign following the dismissal of head coach Keshi—a move the club says is aimed at restoring discipline, unity, and competitive focus.
The decision, which takes immediate effect, was announced by the Delta State Sports Commission after a prolonged period of internal challenges that disrupted the team’s progress this season.
According to the Commission, the club had grown increasingly concerned about repeated issues surrounding the former coach’s conduct, particularly his relationship with players and officials. Despite several interventions and warnings from management, the situation reportedly failed to improve.
Club authorities also cited a series of incidents seen as undermining institutional authority, including open disagreements with directives from the Sports Commission and conduct during Delta Queens’ away fixture against Ahudiyannen Queens in Umuahia on January 14. The Commission noted that claims raised during the match heightened tensions unnecessarily and risked drawing sanctions from NWFL organisers.
On the pitch, Delta Queens’ inconsistent form further compounded the club’s concerns. A 1–0 home defeat to Abia Angels FC, a side struggling this season, was highlighted as one of the results that intensified scrutiny of the technical staff.
In a termination letter dated January 15, 2026, the Delta State Sports Commission described Keshi’s actions as incompatible with the values and objectives of the club, stressing that professionalism and respect for structure remain non-negotiable. He was instructed to return all club property to the General Manager.
With an eye on stability, the Commission swiftly appointed Maureen Ajibade as the new Head Coach. She will work alongside Susan Aliyah and Jennifer Ajuyah, a technical team believed capable of steadying the squad and refocusing Delta Queens for the remainder of the season.
Reacting to the development, Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, reiterated the Commission’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline, warning that any actions capable of derailing the team’s objectives would be met with decisive measures.
As Delta Queens turn the page, the emphasis now shifts to unity, accountability, and improved performances as the club seeks to regain its footing in the highly competitive NWFL Premiership.
