Dele Alli targets 2026 World Cup Return amid injury recovery journey

Posted : 16 April 2024

Dele Alli, Everton midfielder, expressed his determination to participate in the 2026 World Cup with England, despite being sidelined with hip and groin injuries since February 2023. In a candid interview, he revealed his daily reminder of the tournament's goal and his unwavering belief in his abilities, emphasizing his eagerness to return to top form.

Having last played on loan at Besiktas before a hip injury cut short his spell, Alli aims to resume full training by the end of the current season, highlighting his contractual commitment to Everton until its conclusion. He reflected on his challenging journey, including a six-week rehab stint due to a sleeping pill addiction and mental health struggles, as well as childhood trauma.

Although his last international appearance was in 2019, Alli remains resolute in his ambition to represent England again, buoyed by his progress towards recovery despite setbacks. He acknowledged the growth stemming from his injury ordeal, viewing it as an opportunity for personal development and resilience, demonstrating his unwavering determination to overcome adversity and reclaim his place on the pitch.
