Defending champions, Enyimba Int'l FC sends noisy Sporting Lagos FC to relegation zone

Posted : 08 January 2024

The People’s Elephant compounded the woes of Sporting Lagos, as each half's goals scored by the host were all the Enyimba team needed to record a 2-0 home win.

The loss in Match Day 17 of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) by the Lagos State-based club, however, pushed them further down as the Tech Boys now occupy the 18th position with just four wins in 17 games.

A goal in either half for the nine-time winners of the league, Enyimba International FC, condemned the visiting Lagos Tech Boys. Ekwutoziam converted from the spot to put Enyimba International ahead, while the second goal was scored in the three minutes of added time.

Former MFM FC hitman Elijah Akanni was introduced in the 68th minute as Ekene Awazie was withdrawn in an enforced switch. Akanni, however, justified the faith placed on his shoulders as he found the back of the net in the 93rd minute, surely after a delightful exchange with Chibuike Nwaiwu.
