Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) defending champions, Enyimba, say they have appealed against the two-point deduction handed to them by the domestic league organizers, NPFL.

The nine-time champions said that the team would explore all legitimate means available to ensure justice was done, adding that deducting two points from the total points they have so far amassed in the current 2023/2024 campaign is akin to 'subtly paving the way for their title rivals to claim the title while at the same time denying them the opportunity to win their 10th NPFL title'.

Enyimba, who are two-time CAF Champions League winners in 2003 and 2004, remain the only Nigerian club to have won the continent's most prized inter-club diadem.

An official of the club said they were shocked to the marrow by being docked two points by NPFL in the aftermath of the ugly incident that overshadowed their Match Day 24 clash against Doma United in Aba.

The official lamented that the People's Elephant were left with the 'inexplicable' two-point deduction after they had earlier been fined N7m and three home games behind closed doors.

"It appears some people have programmed a particular club to win the NPFL title this season," starts the visibly enraged Enyimba official.

"And perhaps deny us, Enyimba, the opportunity to win the trophy, our possible 10th NPFL trophy.

"If not, how come they have deducted two points from our total points? We can't fold our hands and allow this to happen. We are appealing against this action by the NPFL.

"We're dispatching our appeal straight away. This is a brazen injustice and we are not happy about it so we are going to appeal against it".

Rangers are top of the NPFL Standings with 57 points while Enyimba stand in second position with 55 points. With the two-point deduction, Enyimba are now left with 53 points, four points adrift of the Coal City Flying Antelopes.
