Defending champions Enyimba extends invincible run over Shooting Stars

The defending champions of the league, Enyimba International FC, kicked off their second-stanza campaign in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a lone goal against the visiting Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan on Saturday.


Recall that Enyimba International FC had stunned Shooting Stars SC with a 2-1 victory in the last game of the first stanza on Match Day 19 in front of their home fans at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba.


Upon resumption for the return leg, Enyimba International FC continued their dominance over the Oluyole Warriors, securing a 1-0 victory.


Enyimba International FC played without their head coach, Finidi George, who has yet to return to the team after successfully guiding the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a silver medal at the just-concluded African Cup of Nations in Cote D'Ivoire.


However, substitute goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo returned to the fold.


The only goal of the day was scored by Chijioke Mbaoma in the 43rd minute, which was touted as a clinical finish.


Mbaoma was later replaced with Chibuike Nwaiwu in the 65th minute, while Uche Collins also got a chance to replace another debutant, Muyiwa Alade.
