Daniel Daga Explains Emotional Goal Celebration After Molde Victory

Posted : 28 July 2026

Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga has revealed the emotional story behind his goal celebration during Molde's 4-2 victory over KFUM Oslo in the Norwegian Eliteserien, describing it as one of the most meaningful moments of his career.

The 19-year-old scored Molde's equaliser in the 40th minute after reacting quickest to a rebound when a teammate's effort crashed against the crossbar. Instead of celebrating with his teammates immediately, Daga fell to the ground in tears and covered his face with his jersey in an emotional moment that drew applause from supporters inside the stadium.

Speaking after the match, the former Flying Eagles midfielder admitted the goal meant far more than simply getting on the scoresheet.

"It's been a long time since I played. It was a big moment for me. I'm grateful to God; it was a very emotional moment for me," Daga said.

The goal came in only his second start since returning to Molde's first team after the Frostating Court of Appeal overturned a previous conviction earlier this month and acquitted him. The Norwegian club had suspended Daga following the original court ruling but reinstated him after the appeal verdict cleared him of the charges.

In a statement following the judgment, Molde confirmed that the midfielder's employment situation had been resolved and that he was once again available for selection.

Daga's return has provided a significant boost for the Norwegian club, and his performance against KFUM Oslo showed his determination to rebuild his career. After his equaliser, Molde took control of the match as Emil Breivik scored to give the hosts the lead before KFUM found another equaliser.

Martin Linnes and Samukele Kabini both struck in stoppage time to seal an entertaining 4-2 victory, ensuring Molde collected all three points in the league.

The midfielder joined Molde before the start of the 2025 season after emerging as one of Nigeria's brightest young talents. His energetic displays for the Flying Eagles earned him recognition both at home and abroad, and he has continued to develop in Norway despite a challenging period away from the pitch.

Daga has now made 14 appearances for Molde and has scored three goals. His latest strike was not only important in helping his club secure victory but also marked an emotional milestone as he completed his return to competitive football.

The Nigerian will now hope to build on Sunday's performance and establish himself as a regular starter as Molde continue their campaign in the Norwegian Eliteserien.
