Former Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has appealed to Nigerians to offer their support and prayers for the Super Eagles ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs scheduled to take place in Morocco.
Dalung made the call while discussing the team’s preparations for the upcoming CAF playoff tournament in Rabat.
“I think the boys have put up a very good fight. I’ll be praying for them to keep the tempo so that our football can return to the World Cup stage,” Dalung said.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s absence from recent editions, the former minister expressed hope that this time would be different.
“Since I left office in 2019, I’ve been lamenting because it seemed we couldn’t hoist our flag at the tournament anymore. I enjoin all prayer warriors to pray for the success of the Eagles to qualify,” he added.
The Super Eagles are set to face Gabon, Cameroon, and DR Congo in the playoff mini-tournament, which will determine Africa’s representatives for the Intercontinental playoff in March 2026 — where two World Cup tickets will be up for grabs.
Nigeria will open their campaign against Gabon on November 13, while the winner of that fixture will face either Cameroon or DR Congo in the final.
The Super Eagles will commence their training camp in Rabat on Sunday, November 9, with all invited players expected to report promptly as preparations intensify for the crucial matches.
