Until recently, Désiré Doué was a relatively unknown figure in global football. But at just 19 years old, the dynamic forward has become a crucial force in Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit of the elusive Champions League trophy.
With standout performances—including a decisive penalty that eliminated Liverpool, a stunning equalizer against Aston Villa, and a title-clinching goal against Angers—Doué has emerged as one of the brightest young stars in European football. His rapid rise has also seen him debut for the French national team and outsell big names like Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in shirt sales.
Doué's journey to stardom began in Rennes, where the club recognized his talent early and made an exception to their policy by signing him at age five. After joining PSG last summer for €50 million, Doué initially struggled for minutes, often starting games on the bench.
However, his breakthrough came with a goal against Salzburg in the Champions League. From that point forward, he became a regular starter and one of the most productive players in the squad, even after the arrival of additional attacking reinforcements like Kvaratskhelia.
In 2025 alone, Doué has tallied ten goals and ten assists, placing him behind only Dembele and Barcola in direct goal contributions for PSG. He leads Europe’s top five leagues in chances created from open play per 90 minutes and trails only Dembele in successful dribbles in Ligue 1.
His versatility has made him invaluable to coach Luis Enrique, who has deployed him in multiple attacking roles. Though naturally a winger, Doué has shown adaptability, often playing centrally and even in deeper midfield roles when needed.
Despite standing at 1.80 meters, Doué’s low center of gravity, quick feet, and flair for deception make him a nightmare for defenders. He’s often compared to Neymar, a player he idolizes, but he adds defensive grit to his game as well, ranking high in tackles and ball recoveries among attacking players.
His name—coincidentally meaning “talented” in French—seems prophetic, and as he continues to evolve, Doué could very well be the figure who finally delivers PSG’s long-awaited European triumph.
