Crystal Palace’s proposed move for Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez has hit a major obstacle after concerns emerged from the Ecuador international’s medical.
The Premier League club is now weighing whether to proceed with the deal after discovering that his existing metatarsal injury may be more serious than initially expected.
Palace had moved ahead of Aston Villa to agree an initial loan for the 22-year-old, with an option to make the transfer permanent.
The Eagles accelerated their search for defensive reinforcements after Chadi Riad suffered an injury against Everton and have already brought in Axel Disasi from Chelsea on loan.
Reports from Ecuador subsequently indicated that Palace had decided against completing the transfer following the medical, although the initial British reports described the move as still under consideration. Ordonez is therefore expected to remain with Club Brugge while he continues his recovery.
