Crystal Palace Face Fixture Chaos with Four Games in Eight Days After Carabao Cup Progress

Posted : 30 October 2025

Crystal Palace are facing an intense run of fixtures, with four matches scheduled within eight days in December, following their qualification for the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

The Eagles’ impressive 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday booked them a place in the last eight, where they have been drawn to face Arsenal away during the week commencing 15 December.

Palace already have a packed December schedule. They are due to host Manchester City in the Premier League on 14 December, before their likely EFL Cup quarter-final against Arsenal on 16 December. After that, they will take on KuPS at Selhurst Park in the Europa Conference League on 18 December, followed by an away league match at Leeds United on 21 December.

The EFL is currently in discussions with clubs and broadcasters about the scheduling issue, but there are no available midweek slots before Christmas. Arsenal, meanwhile, benefit from an extra day’s rest as their Premier League game against Wolves is set for 13 December.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner is set to face a logistical headache, as his team already have Premier League and Conference League commitments every midweek until Christmas. January offers no respite either, with continuous domestic and European action scheduled until February.

The first legs of the EFL Cup semi-finals are planned for the week of 13 January, while the second legs are slated for early February — coinciding with the Champions League knockout rounds.

The situation is further complicated by Arsenal’s participation in the Champions League, which limits flexibility in moving fixtures. The Premier League is also unlikely to reschedule two matches to accommodate the EFL Cup quarter-final on a weekend.

Similar fixture pile-ups have occurred in recent years. In 2019, Liverpool fielded two different teams within 24 hours — one losing 5-0 to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup while the senior squad beat Monterrey 2-1 in the Club World Cup. Likewise, in 2020, Tottenham Hotspur avoided a scheduling clash when their EFL Cup tie against Leyton Orient was cancelled due to a COVID-19 outbreak, granting them a walkover.
