Crystal Palace enters race for Dutch-Nigerian-Togolese Chelsea-linked attacker

Posted : 12 May 2025

Crystal Palace have emerged as the latest Premier League club reportedly interested in signing Emanuel Emegha, the Dutch-Nigerian-Togolese forward from Strasbourg. The 22-year-old has impressed in Ligue 1 this season and is drawing attention from several clubs, including Crystal Palace.

According to The Sun UK, Crystal Palace’s interest in Emegha is linked to the potential sale of Jean-Philippe Mateta. Despite being contracted to the Eagles for two more seasons, speculation about Mateta’s future has led the club to start exploring alternatives, with Emegha being identified as a possible replacement.

With the 2024 Olympic silver medalist’s future uncertain, a move to a Premier League club could be a tempting opportunity for the young striker, especially if it offers him a chance to play in European competitions like the Champions League. This move would be an exciting step in his career after a strong season.

Crystal Palace are already planning for the possibility of Mateta’s departure and have earmarked Emegha as a potential successor in their forward line. The club is actively looking for reinforcement options to maintain their attacking strength for the next season.

Emegha has been consistently performing well in Ligue 1, netting 14 goals in 27 appearances, a tally surpassed by only four other players in the league: Ousmane Dembélé, Mason Greenwood, Arnaud Kalimuendo, and Jonathan David. His rise has caught the attention of various European clubs, including Chelsea, who share ownership with Strasbourg and are closely monitoring his development.

Chelsea’s recruitment team has expressed admiration for Emegha’s performances this season, which contrasts with his more inconsistent debut campaign. The Blues are keeping tabs on the striker, and with their relationship with Strasbourg, they are well-positioned to negotiate a potential move if they decide to pursue him further.

Other clubs, including Everton, Fulham, West Ham United, and Brentford, are also said to be interested in signing the young forward. Emegha has earned a spot on Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle’s radar as the team prepares for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers. However, he missed Strasbourg’s most recent match due to injury, which has raised concerns about his immediate availability.
