2025/2026 NNL Match Day 11: Crown FC Suffers Slim Defeat to Edel FC

Posted : 08 March 2026

Crown FC endured another frustrating afternoon at the Awka City Stadium after suffering a painful 2–1 defeat to Edel FC, despite taking the lead in what turned out to be a dramatic and emotionally draining contest.

The Ajilete Warriors began the encounter with determination and tactical discipline under the guidance of Technical Adviser Fatai Osho, whose game plan initially paid off.

Crown FC displayed good organization, quick transitions, and attacking intent, which culminated in the opening goal in the 29th minute.

Forward Sadiq Rilwan moved rightly to meet a well-delivered cross from Haruna Abutu, heading the ball powerfully into the net to hand the visitors a deserved advantage.

The goal also marked a moment of redemption for Rilwan, who had endured criticism from supporters after missing a penalty in the previous weekend’s defeat to Gateway FC at the Soun Stadium.

However, the lead proved short-lived as Edel FC gradually asserted control through sustained possession and attacking pressure.

Their persistence eventually paid off in the 42nd minute when Melody Solomon found the equalizer, restoring parity before half-time and setting the stage for a fiercely contested second half.

After the break, Crown FC maintained a disciplined defensive structure and appeared to have absorbed much of the pressure from the home side.

The coaching crew’s tactical adjustments kept the team competitive, with the players working tirelessly to contain Edel FC’s attacking threats while seeking opportunities on the counterattack.

Unfortunately, the visitors’ resilience was undone at the very last moment of the game.

A lapse in concentration during stoppage time allowed Edel FC to snatch a dramatic late winner by Chiedozie Ogbodo, leaving Crown FC stunned after putting in a commendable effort for most of the encounter.

The final whistle was met with visible disappointment among the Crown FC players, many of whom appeared dejected and frustrated by yet another painful outcome after coming so close to securing at least a point.

While the technical crew’s tactical preparation and approach showed promise, the result highlighted the urgent need for the players to improve their concentration, decision-making, and overall execution, particularly in critical moments of matches.

The defeat further compounds a worrying run of form for the Ajilete Warriors, who are now winless in their last four matches, managing only two points from a possible twelve during that period.

With pressure mounting, the team must quickly rediscover its consistency and mental strength as the promotion race intensifies.

Crown FC will now turn their attention to their next challenge, an away fixture in Lagos State where they are scheduled to face Smart City FC next weekend in what has become a crucial opportunity to halt their recent slide and revive their campaign.
