Cristiano Ronaldo has once again claimed the title of the world’s highest-paid footballer, earning a staggering $280 million in 2025.
Cristiano Ronaldo has reaffirmed his financial dominance in football, topping the 2025 Forbes list as the world’s highest-paid player. The Portuguese superstar earned an astonishing $280 million this year, with $230 million coming from his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr. This figure is more than double that of his long-time rival Lionel Messi, who ranks second with $130 million in total earnings.
Ronaldo’s remarkable year extends beyond his bank account. The 40-year-old continues to rewrite football history, recently netting a brace for Portugal in a World Cup qualifier against Hungary. That performance made him the all-time top scorer in World Cup qualifiers, with 41 goals, surpassing Guatemala’s Carlos Ruiz. Across his career, Ronaldo has now scored 948 goals, including 143 for the Portuguese national team, further solidifying his legacy as one of football’s greatest icons.
Trailing Messi on the earnings chart are Karim Benzema ($104 million), Kylian Mbappé ($95 million), and Erling Haaland ($80 million), completing the top five. Former third-place holder Neymar has dropped out of the top 10 following his injury struggles. In sixth place is Vinicius Junior ($60 million), followed by Mohamed Salah ($55 million), Sadio Mane ($54 million), and Jude Bellingham ($44 million).
Rounding off the elite list is Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, who, at just 18 years old, has already earned $43 million, including $33 million from his club salary. His inclusion marks him as one of the youngest players ever to feature among the world’s top 10 earners in football.
