Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Portugal’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with head coach Roberto Martinez confirming the 41-year-old striker as part of his final selection. The veteran forward is set to make a record sixth appearance at the tournament.
Now playing for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, Ronaldo remains Portugal’s all-time leading scorer in men’s international football with 143 goals. Despite his age, he continues to play a central role for the national team as they prepare for another major World Cup campaign.
Portugal have never won the World Cup, but Ronaldo could potentially share the global stage once again with long-time rival Lionel Messi, who is also expected to feature in his sixth tournament after winning the competition with Argentina in 2022.
Ronaldo recently avoided a suspension after being sent off during a qualifying match against the Republic of Ireland. Martinez’s 27-man squad includes a strong mix of experience and youth, featuring players from top European clubs and leagues across the world.
The squad features key names such as Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Rúben Dias, João Cancelo, Vitinha, and Rafael Leão, alongside Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr teammate João Félix. Portugal will prepare for the tournament with friendly matches against Chile and Nigeria before beginning their World Cup campaign against DR Congo on June 17.
