Coach Onigbinde Resigns as Doma United FC Technical Adviser

Posted : 04 September 2025

Doma United FC and their esteemed coach, Onigbinde Akinade, have mutually decided to part ways following a successful three-year tenure with the Savannah Tigers.

Coach Akinade officially confirmed his resignation as Technical Adviser of the Gombe-based club in a statement, bringing to a close a remarkable spell at the helm. In a heartfelt letter addressed to the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Suleman Umar, and dated September 2, 2025, he described his time with Doma United as “an honor and a rare privilege” and expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team.

“Over the past three seasons, it has been an honor and a rare privilege to serve this great club under your able leadership. I am deeply grateful to you, Alhaji Suleman Umar, for entrusting me with the responsibility of guiding the team,” Akinade wrote in his resignation letter.

He also praised the technical staff, players, and backroom team for their dedication, unity, and professionalism, emphasizing that their collective efforts were key to achieving several milestones.

Notable accomplishments under Coach Akinade include:

  • Winners of the NPFL Alan Cup Preseason Tournament (2023/2024)
  • Champions of the Gombe State FA Cup (2023)
  • A fourth-place finish in the NPFL (2023/2024 season), the club’s best-ever league standing
  • A 10-match unbeaten streak in the NPFL (2023/2024)
  • NPFL Coach of the Month awards twice in 2023
  • A strong performance at the NNL Super 8 in Asaba (2024/2025)

“Together, we shared memorable moments that will remain with me for a lifetime. While this chapter comes to a close, my respect and admiration for Doma United will always endure. I wish the club continued success in all its future endeavors and will always remain a supporter of the team,” he added.

Akinade’s departure marks the end of a golden era for Doma United, a period in which the club not only gained national recognition but also established itself as a competitive force in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

As the club begins the search for a new technical adviser, fans and stakeholders are expected to celebrate Akinade’s contributions while looking forward to the next chapter in Doma United’s journey.
