Club Brugge Stun Inter Milan 4-3 as Nicolò Tresoldi Scores

Posted : 14 October 2026

Club Brugge produced a remarkable performance to defeat Inter Milan 4-3 at the San Siro on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with young forward Nicolò Tresoldi stealing the spotlight through a stunning hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League. The victory handed the Belgian side their first points of the campaign while leaving Inter searching for a response after consecutive defeats in the competition.

Tresoldi, a 22-year-old Italian-German striker, proved decisive despite Inter's early pressure. Former Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer, now representing Club Brugge, made important saves to deny Lautaro Martínez and frustrate Marcus Thuram, who sent an early attempt wide. The visitors gradually found their rhythm and took the lead in the 30th minute when Hakan Çalhanoğlu fouled Carlos Forbs inside the penalty area. Tresoldi stepped up and confidently converted the spot-kick.

Inter responded before half-time through captain Lautaro Martínez. A move involving Thuram and Federico Dimarco created the opportunity, with Dimarco providing a backheel assist that allowed the Argentine forward to finish and restore parity at 1-1 just before the interval.

The second half belonged largely to Tresoldi, who capitalised on Inter's defensive mistakes to put Club Brugge back in front. In the 63rd minute, Forbs exploited confusion involving goalkeeper Josep Martínez and the Inter defence, allowing Tresoldi to finish into an unguarded net. Eleven minutes later, the striker completed his hat-trick by reacting quickest to a rebound after another effort was stopped by the Inter goalkeeper.

Martínez kept Inter's hopes alive by scoring his second goal in the 81st minute, reducing the deficit to 3-2. However, Club Brugge quickly regained control when Romeo Vermant scored in the 87th minute, finishing a counterattack to make it 4-2. Inter substitute Ange-Yoan Bonny found the net in stoppage time, but his effort came too late to prevent the home side from suffering a painful defeat.

Reflecting on his performance, Tresoldi described the occasion as an extraordinary experience, saying it was the kind of night he had repeatedly imagined in his dreams. His three goals made him the standout performer in a thrilling encounter that exposed Inter's defensive vulnerabilities.

The defeat leaves Inter under significant pressure after opening their European campaign with a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid. The Italian side will need to recover quickly ahead of their next Champions League fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk. Club Brugge, meanwhile, will look to build on their impressive result when they welcome French opposition Lens in their next European outing.
