Clinical Edel FC retain Anambra FA Cup crown

Posted : 28 April 2026

Edel FC underlined their growing dominance in Anambra football with a composed and efficient 2-0 victory over Amanda FC to successfully defend their ANSFA/NEROS Pharmaceuticals FA Cup title at Neros Stadium, Nanka.

Rather than a one-sided rout, this final told the story of control, patience, and timely execution. Edel FC dictated the rhythm from kickoff, asserting their superiority in possession and territory, but were initially frustrated by a resilient Amanda FC side and an inspired goalkeeper.

The early stages hinted at a potentially nervy outing for the defending champions. Solomon Ugwu had the chance to settle nerves from the spot in the 6th minute, but his effort was well read and saved, momentarily lifting the underdogs’ belief.

Amanda FC, however, struggled to translate defensive resilience into attacking threat. Their approach remained largely reactive, allowing Edel FC to continue probing for openings.

The breakthrough eventually arrived just before halftime, and fittingly, it was Ugwu who responded. Latching onto a loose ball inside the six-yard area, he finished decisively to give Edel FC a deserved lead heading into the break.

The second half followed a familiar pattern, with Edel FC in control and Amanda FC chasing shadows. The decisive moment came through Damian Udoye, whose individual brilliance effectively ended the contest.

Cutting in from the left, he navigated past defenders before unleashing a powerful strike into the top corner, a goal that reflected both confidence and quality.

While the scoreline suggests comfort, Amanda FC’s goalkeeper remained a standout performer; his penalty save and several interventions prevented a heavier defeat.

In the end, Edel FC’s experience, structure, and composure in key moments made the difference. Coach Phinan Ozonweke’s side not only defended their title but reinforced their status as the team to beat in Anambra State football.

The victory was rewarded with a ₦2 million prize, presented by Sir Victor Nwangwu on behalf of sponsor Professor Polycarp Emenike, while Amanda FC and third-placed Game Changers settled for ₦1 million and ₦500,000 respectively.

For Edel FC, this was less about flair and more about authority—a performance built on control, resilience, and championship maturity.

This successful title defense highlights the disciplined tactical approach that has come to define Edel FC's recent run of form. By combining veteran poise with clinical finishing, the champions have firmly established themselves as the premier power in the state's footballing landscape.
