Christopher Danjuma Demands Better Efficiency From Nasarawa Amazons After Narrow Win

Posted : 10 April 2026

Nasarawa Amazons head coach Christopher Danjuma has expressed concerns over his team's finishing despite a crucial victory. The "Lafia Landladies" secured a narrow 1-0 win against Remo Stars Ladies during their Matchday 14 encounter in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL). While the result was positive, the veteran tactician insisted that his players must become more efficient in front of goal.

The match took place at the Lafia City Stadium and remained a tense affair for the majority of the duration. Nasarawa Amazons dominated possession and created several opportunities through the attacking trio of Igbokwe Joy, Abdulwahaab Faridat, and Adesoji Esther. However, the hosts struggled to break the deadlock during a frustrated first half as the Remo Stars defense held firm.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 87th minute of the contest. A handball infraction inside the box forced the referee to point to the penalty spot late in the game. Forward Alani Jumoke took responsibility and calmly converted the penalty; this goal proved to be the decider and sent the home supporters into celebrations.

Following the final whistle, Danjuma praised the resilience of his squad but remained honest about their tactical shortcomings. He noted that the team is working hard to convert more chances from open play rather than relying on set pieces. The coach also mentioned that the absence of several key attackers has hindered their offensive fluidity in recent weeks.

The victory has significant implications for the Group B standings. Nasarawa Amazons have now climbed to second place; this positioning keeps them firmly in contention for the season-ending Super Six tournament. Danjuma also took a moment to acknowledge Remo Stars coach Wemimo Mathew; he highlighted their mutual respect and shared history within the national team coaching ranks.

The Amazons will now prepare for a challenging trip to Osun State for Matchday 15. They are scheduled to face Osun Babes FC in Ile-Ogbo in a match that could define their late-season momentum. Danjuma expects a much higher conversion rate from his players if they are to maintain their pursuit of the league title.
