Chelsea Step Up Maxence Lacroix Pursuit After Near-Record Morgan Rogers Deal

Chelsea have accelerated their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix as the Premier League club continues an ambitious recruitment drive ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Reports indicate that Chelsea are in advanced discussions with Crystal Palace over a move for the France international, who impressed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Palace are understood to value the 26-year-old centre-back at a minimum of £60 million.

Lacroix has become one of the Premier League's most consistent defenders since joining Crystal Palace from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in August 2024. He has made 98 appearances for the Eagles and played a key role in their successful UEFA Conference League campaign.

Chelsea view Lacroix as an important addition to strengthen their defence as head coach Xabi Alonso continues reshaping the squad. His pace, aerial ability and composure on the ball make him a strong fit for the club's long-term plans.

The move comes as Chelsea edge closer to completing the signing of Aston Villa attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers. Reports suggest the two clubs have agreed a deal worth £117 million, which would surpass the current British transfer record if finalised.

Rogers has been one of the Premier League's standout young attacking players and had attracted strong interest from Arsenal before Chelsea moved decisively to secure his signature. The 23-year-old is expected to provide creativity and versatility across the attacking positions.

Chelsea have already been active during the transfer window, adding Geovany Quenda, Marco Palestra and Emmanuel Emegha to their squad. At the same time, Marc Cucurella, Andrey Santos and Tyrique George have departed as the club continues to reshape its roster under Alonso.

Should the deals for Rogers and Lacroix both be completed, Chelsea's spending would underline the club's determination to challenge for major honours domestically and in Europe during the new campaign.

The Blues are expected to remain active in the market before the transfer window closes, with further additions possible as they look to build a balanced squad capable of competing across multiple competitions.
