England U17s head coach Neil Ryan has unveiled his squad for the upcoming 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, with three players of Nigerian descent included in the lineup.
Chelsea's Landon Emenalo, West Ham goalkeeper Lanre Awesu, and Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha have all been selected among the 21-man squad set to represent England in the continental competition.
Landon Emenalo, a promising midfielder, is the son of former Nigeria international and ex-Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo, who was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 1994 World Cup, stepping in for the injured Benedict Iroha.
Although Landon was born in Arizona and qualifies to play for the United States, he has already featured for England in official matches, starting with his debut during a Euro qualifier against Malta in October 2024.
Rio Ngumoha, also eligible to play for Nigeria, made his competitive bow for the Young Lions in the same match as Emenalo and provided an assist, further solidifying his provisional commitment to England.
Meanwhile, Lanre Awesu earned his first cap for England U17s during a March 2025 qualifier against Northern Ireland, keeping a clean sheet in a commanding 5-0 win.
Both Emenalo and Ngumoha have made strides at the senior level this season, with Ngumoha notably debuting for Liverpool in the FA Cup at just 16 years and 135 days old—becoming the youngest player to feature for the Reds in that competition. England’s U17s will face Belgium, Italy, and the Czech Republic in a tough group stage at the tournament.
