Former Nigerian footballer Sunday Mba has encouraged Chelsea to pursue Ademola Lookman in the upcoming summer transfer window. He believes the Nigerian forward could be a valuable addition to the London club’s squad.
Mba, who secured Nigeria’s third Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title with his decisive goal against Burkina Faso in 2013, is confident that Lookman would thrive under Enzo Maresca’s tactical system at Chelsea.
Lookman played a crucial role in Nigeria’s journey to the AFCON 2023 final and has been in outstanding form for Atalanta. With 12 goals and five assists in the 2024-25 season, he has attracted interest from several top European clubs.
Speaking to Africafoot, Mba emphasized that Chelsea should prioritize signing Lookman. He believes the forward’s skill set aligns perfectly with Maresca’s vision for his attacking line.
"If I were Chelsea’s sporting director or manager, I would push for Lookman’s signing. It would be a beneficial move for both sides because of his qualities," Mba stated.
According to the former Enyimba star, Lookman possesses the speed, technical ability, dribbling skills, and goal-scoring instinct that Chelsea needs. He highlighted that many of the club’s current strikers struggle to demonstrate even two of those attributes.
Mba firmly believes that Chelsea would provide the ideal environment for Lookman to shine, making the Nigerian forward a strong candidate for a summer transfer to Stamford Bridge.
