Chelsea have decided to exclude midfielder Enzo Fernández from their squad for the next two matches following remarks he made during the recent international break.
The 25‑year‑old Argentine expressed a desire to live in Madrid and spoke ambiguously about his long‑term future at Stamford Bridge, comments that have been linked to ongoing transfer speculation involving Real Madrid.
Head coach Liam Rosenior confirmed that the club has sanctioned Fernández by leaving him out of Saturday’s FA Cup quarter‑final against Port Vale and next weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.
Rosenior said the decision was made after a discussion with the player and described his remarks as disappointing and inconsistent with the culture Chelsea wants to foster.
The midfielder, who joined the club for a British‑record fee in 2023 and became vice‑captain the following year, had also earlier admitted uncertainty about his future after Chelsea’s recent Champions League exit.
Despite the disciplinary action, Rosenior stressed that the door is not closed on Fernández’s involvement once the sanction period ends.
