Chelsea secured a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday in a result that has left Spurs facing a tense final day in the Premier League relegation battle. The win also provided Chelsea with a much-needed boost after a difficult run of form.
Enzo Fernández opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a well-placed curling effort from outside the penalty area, giving Chelsea an early advantage at Stamford Bridge. The hosts doubled their lead midway through the second half through Andrey Santos, who finished off a strong attacking move to put Chelsea in control.
Tottenham responded in the 74th minute when Richarlison capitalised on a clever backheel from Pape Matar Sarr to reduce the deficit. Despite pushing forward in search of an equaliser, Spurs were unable to break through Chelsea’s defence again before the final whistle.
The result leaves Tottenham in a vulnerable position going into the final round of fixtures, with West Ham now closing the gap in the relegation zone battle. Spurs, who have not been relegated since 1977, will need at least a point on the final day to secure survival due to their superior goal difference.
West Ham remain in 18th place but are just two points behind Tottenham and must win their final match against Leeds to keep their survival hopes alive. Burnley and Wolves have already been confirmed as relegated this season.
Chelsea’s victory marks their first Premier League win since March and lifts them to eighth place in the table, providing a positive end to a challenging campaign.
