Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle says he is looking ahead to the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with renewed confidence after guiding Nigeria to victory in the Unity Cup in London.
In September, Nigeria will host second-placed Rwanda in Uyo, before facing a tough away clash against group leaders South Africa just days later. The Super Eagles currently trail South Africa by six points, with four rounds of qualifiers remaining.
Despite the gap, Chelle remains optimistic—but has called for more effort from his players to revive their World Cup hopes. “We scored goals, created chances, and showed good signs in our overall play,” he said, reflecting on the team’s performance in the Unity Cup. “What matters most is playing together—in both attack and defence.
“We have to keep improving physically and mentally. We must become true warriors on the pitch. “We need to grow stronger as a group and as a team, especially if we’re serious about reaching the World Cup.”
