Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has expressed a mix of optimism and concern following Nigeria’s triumph in the 2025 Unity Cup final.
While acknowledging the positives from the tournament, Chelle emphasized that the team must make significant improvements to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals in the USA.
“This game today, with the two mistakes—we need to improve. We need to step up, both as a group and as a team,” Chelle said. “To qualify for the World Cup, we must raise our level. I can say my players have good spirit and a strong mindset, and I’m happy about that. We need to keep working and focus on my game plan. I believe the players were committed today, and in the end, we deserved to win the tournament.”
Chelle described the Unity Cup as his first trophy as a coach, despite having won several as a player.
He expressed hope that Saturday’s victory would mark the beginning of a trophy-laden era for Nigeria.
