Champions League Round-Up: Man United Humiliated by Como as Arsenal Rescue Draw Against Bayern

Posted : 22 October 2026

Manchester United endured another disappointing night in the UEFA Champions League after losing 4-1 to Como, increasing the pressure on manager Michael Carrick. Nico Paz scored twice, while Tasos Douvikas and Jacobo Ramon also found the net for Cesc Fabregas's side.

Substitute Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation for United, who extended their winless run to seven matches across all competitions and suffered consecutive European defeats.

Carrick admitted that United's performance was unacceptable but insisted he had not given his own position much thought.

The defeat further exposed the team's defensive weaknesses and lack of consistency, leaving the manager facing growing questions about his ability to turn the season around.

Arsenal, meanwhile, secured a valuable 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in Germany thanks to Declan Rice's late equaliser. Eberechi Eze gave the visitors the lead after replacing the injured Bukayo Saka, but Alphonso Davies levelled before half-time.

Harry Kane then converted a second-half penalty to put Bayern ahead before Rice struck in the 82nd minute to earn Arsenal a share of the points. Saka's injury remained a concern for manager Mikel Arteta.

Real Madrid, Aston Villa and Betis Continue Winning Runs

Real Madrid produced another commanding performance, beating RB Leipzig 4-1 to maintain their perfect Champions League record. Bernardo Silva and Arda Guler scored either side of half-time before Kylian Mbappe added a third.

Leipzig briefly reduced the deficit through Tidiam Gomis, but Yan Diomande sealed the victory with a spectacular volley against his former club. Mbappe's goal also took his season tally to 12 in 12 appearances.

Aston Villa also made it three wins from three by defeating Viking Stavanger 3-1. Ross Barkley opened the scoring before Emiliano Buendia converted a penalty and Henrik Heggheim scored an own goal. Peter Christiansen pulled one back for the Norwegian side, who remain without a victory in the competition. Real Betis maintained their flawless start as well, with an Isco penalty securing a narrow 1-0 win over Feyenoord in Seville.

Inter Milan claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk despite Alessandro Bastoni receiving a red card in the second half.

Carlos Augusto scored late to secure the Italian side's first points of the campaign. Club Brugge recorded a convincing 3-0 win over Lens, with Hans Vanaken, Joaquin Seys and Carlos Forbs finding the net.

Galatasaray earned a 4-2 away victory against Lille, with Victor Osimhen scoring against his former club to help seal the result. Lille's teenage forward Soriba Diaoune scored twice, but the French side suffered a third consecutive defeat.

Meanwhile, Austrian side LASK claimed their first points with a surprise 3-2 win over Sporting CP in Lisbon, overcoming two goals from Luis Suarez through strikes by Christoph Lang, Sasa Kalajdzic and Krystof Danek.

PSG Face Injury Setback Despite Strong Start

Paris Saint-Germain remained among the leading teams after defeating Barcelona 4-2 on Tuesday, but their victory came with a significant injury setback.

The reigning champions confirmed that winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and would undergo surgery.

The injury raises serious concerns about his availability for the remainder of the season and could prove a major blow to PSG's ambitions of defending their European title.

The third round of Champions League fixtures delivered dramatic results, with Real Madrid, Aston Villa and Real Betis among the teams maintaining perfect records.

While those clubs strengthened their positions, Manchester United's heavy defeat deepened their crisis, Arsenal demonstrated resilience against Bayern, and PSG were left managing a potentially season-defining injury to one of their key attackers.
