Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has officially recalled defender Baba Abdul Rahman and winger Ernest Nuamah to the national team camp. The duo was included in a 28-man preliminary squad announced for the upcoming global tournament preparations. The selected group opened their training camp on Monday at Dragon Park in Cardiff, Wales. This training session precedes an international friendly match against Wales scheduled for June 2.
The surprise roster selection includes five goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders, and seven forwards. Veteran defender Baba Rahman returns to the national team fold for the first time since September 2023. His selection follows an impressive season with Greek club PAOK, where he registered three goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Olympique Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah returns after a grueling 12-month layout caused by an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Carlos Queiroz made several bold selection adjustments by omitting veteran former captain Andre Dede Ayew from the list. The technical crew also has to contend with the absence of injured Tottenham Hotspur star playmaker Mohammed Kudus. However, the Portuguese tactician handed strategic recalls to Rayo Vallecano defender Abdul Mumin and Stade Rennais fullback Alidu Seidu. Young Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper Paul Reverson also earned an invitation to undergo performance assessment with the senior group.
The international exhibition against Wales will serve as the final warm-up fixture before the team departs for North America. Queiroz is expected to trim the current list down to a final 26-man roster before the tournament starts. The Black Stars have been drawn into a competitive Group L for the global showpiece. They will kick off their campaign against Panama in Toronto, before facing England in Boston and Croatia in Philadelphia.
