Carlo Ancelotti has described his connection with Real Madrid as "eternal" as he prepares to leave the club this weekend to take on the role of head coach for Brazil’s national team. The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed earlier this month that Ancelotti will begin his tenure on May 26. Real Madrid has since officially announced that his time at the Santiago Bernabeu will conclude following their home match against Real Sociedad on Saturday.
Real Madrid expressed their deep appreciation for Ancelotti’s contributions in an official statement, calling him one of the club’s greatest legends. Club president Florentino Perez praised the Italian coach for both his successes and his embodiment of the club’s values.
Across two spells managing Real, Ancelotti secured 15 trophies, including the prestigious Champions League and La Liga titles last season. His first period at the club spanned 2013 to 2015, and he returned in 2021 after leaving Everton.
Though Ancelotti’s contract was originally set to run until June 2026, his departure has been brought forward to allow him to start his new role with Brazil on Monday. Reflecting on his time at Real, Ancelotti shared a heartfelt message on social media, highlighting the unforgettable journey, emotional moments, and historic victories. He emphasized that while a new chapter begins, his bond with Real Madrid remains unbreakable.
Xabi Alonso is expected to succeed Ancelotti as Real Madrid’s head coach. The former Real Madrid and Liverpool midfielder, currently at Bayer Leverkusen, has confirmed he will leave the German club ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup next month. Ancelotti will step in for Brazil following the dismissal of Dorival Junior after a disappointing run in World Cup qualifiers.
Despite recent struggles, Brazil sits fourth in the South American qualifying group and still has a strong chance of reaching the 2026 World Cup. Ancelotti’s first fixtures with the Selecao will be against Paraguay and Ecuador in June.
