Cape Verde have officially revealed their squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with head coach Pedro “Bubista” Brito selecting a largely familiar group of players as preparations intensify for the tournament.
The announcement was made on Monday, 17 May 2026, as the Blue Sharks begin their final phase of preparation ahead of football’s biggest global competition, which will be jointly hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July 2026.
As part of their build-up, Cape Verde will play two international friendlies. They are scheduled to face Serbia on 24 May 2026 at the Rastello Stadium in Portugal, before taking on Bermuda on 31 May 2026 in Connecticut, United States, one of the World Cup host locations.
The Blue Sharks will compete in a challenging Group stage, where they have been drawn alongside Spain, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia. Their opening match is set for 15 June 2026 against Spain at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, followed by fixtures against Uruguay on 21 June at Hard Rock Stadium and Saudi Arabia on 26 June at NRG Stadium.
Cape Verde’s squad features a balanced mix across all departments. In goal are Josimar Dias, Márcio da Rosa, and Carlos Santos. The defence includes Steven Moreira, Logan Costa, Roberto Lopes, Ianique Tavares, Kelvin Pires, Wagner Pina, Sidny Lopes Cabral, John Paul Fernandes, Edilson Borges, and others.
The midfield is anchored by players such as Jamiro Monteiro, Telmo Arcanjo, Yannick Semedo, Kevin Pina, Laros Duarte, and Deroy Duarte. In attack, Cape Verde will rely on Ryan Mendes, Garry Rodrigues, Jovane Cabral, Willy Semedo, Nuno da Costa, Dailon Livramento, Gilson Benchimol, and Hélio Varela, among others.
With a settled core of players and important warm-up matches ahead, Cape Verde will be aiming to fine-tune their squad before making their World Cup debut campaign count on the global stage.
