Cameroon's senior women's national team has resumed preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with the Indomitable Lionesses opening a training camp ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
With just weeks remaining before Africa's biggest women's football competition begins, the Cameroonian squad has started intensive preparations as the coaching staff looks to build fitness, improve tactical cohesion and assemble a competitive team capable of challenging for the continental title.
The 2026 WAFCON is scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 26 to August 16. The tournament will feature Africa's top women's national teams competing for continental honours as well as valuable ranking points and international recognition.
Cameroon has been drawn in a challenging Group D alongside Ghana, Mali and Cabo Verde. The group is expected to be one of the most competitive in the tournament, with all four nations aiming to secure one of the qualification spots for the knockout stage.
The Indomitable Lionesses enter the competition with a rich history in African women's football. Cameroon has consistently been among the continent's strongest teams, reaching the final of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations on several occasions and representing Africa at the FIFA Women's World Cup and the Olympic Games.
The coaching staff will use the training camp to assess player fitness, strengthen team chemistry and fine-tune tactical plans before the squad departs for Morocco. The preparations are expected to include intensive training sessions and friendly matches to ensure the players are match-ready before the opening fixture.
Cameroon will also be aiming to improve on recent performances after falling short of lifting the continental trophy in previous editions. The experience within the squad, combined with emerging young talent, gives the team optimism ahead of another attempt to claim its first WAFCON title.
Every point will be crucial in Group D, where Cameroon must overcome experienced rivals Ghana and Mali, as well as an ambitious Cabo Verde side seeking to make an impact on the continental stage.
With preparations now underway, the Indomitable Lionesses will hope to arrive in Morocco in peak condition as they target a successful campaign and another deep run in Africa's premier women's football tournament.
