Reports emerging from the Super Eagles camp indicate growing tension as players have allegedly refused to train due to delays in the payment of past allowances and other financial disputes.
According to multiple sources, the players are unhappy with the current situation, citing unpaid match bonuses and allowances from previous games. However, another source revealed that the disagreement goes beyond the outstanding payments — the players are also demanding an upward review of their current bonuses and allowances, which they consider inadequate and irregularly paid.
“I gathered authoritatively that the players’ meagre daily allowance, which the NFF promised to pay, is not the main issue,” the source disclosed.
“The real problem is that the players are requesting $15,000 as a winning bonus for each leg of the playoff, amounting to $30,000 in total. The NFF is offering $10,000 per match, but the players have rejected the proposal. Until an agreement is reached, they have refused to train and may even consider boycotting the match against Gabon.”
Another source from the camp confirmed that it took the intervention of the National Sports Commission (NSC) to ease the situation by clearing the team’s backlog of match bonuses and allowances.
“The National Sports Commission stepped in and settled all outstanding payments before today,” the source added. “However, the issue now is not about the backlog, but the players’ special requests ahead of the upcoming playoff.”
