The Confederation of African Football (CAF), in partnership with TotalEnergies, has officially revealed a newly redesigned CAF Champions League trophy, ushering in a new era for the continent’s top club competition.
The unveiling took place at TotalEnergies’ headquarters in Johannesburg and was graced by African football icons like Lucas Radebe, Teko Modise, and Siphiwe Tshabalala, as well as influential football officials including Kaizer Chiefs’ Jessica Motaung and SAFA president Danny Jordaan. This new trophy will be awarded to either Mamelodi Sundowns or Pyramids FC, who will battle for the title in the upcoming final.
The redesign goes beyond visual appeal, embodying CAF’s vision to modernise and elevate the status of African football on the global stage. Crafted with sleek silver and gold accents, the trophy features a golden sphere at its summit, adorned with African motifs that symbolise unity and triumph. According to TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa CEO Olagoke Aluko, the trophy not only reflects the spirit of competition but also the shared values and passion for football across Africa.
Saturday’s first leg of the CAF Champions League final between South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Egypt’s Pyramids FC will be broadcast live from Pretoria, with the return fixture scheduled for June 1 in Cairo. The updated trophy has added a layer of excitement to the final, marking a historic occasion for the winning club as the first to lift the new design.
The visual transformation of the CAF Champions League trophy reinforces the tournament’s reputation as a symbol of excellence and determination in African football. With its modern aesthetic and cultural symbolism, the trophy stands as a testament to CAF’s continued efforts to promote the sport’s growth and prestige across the continent.
