CAF Plans Rabat Draw For 2026/27 Champions League And Confederation Cup

Posted : 25 June 2026

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is preparing to conduct the preliminary-round draws for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup in Rabat, Morocco.

According to reports, the draw is expected to take place before August 10 and will likely be held alongside activities surrounding the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which runs from July 26 to August 16 in Morocco.

CAF is considering Rabat as the preferred venue because the Moroccan capital will serve as one of the host cities for the continental women's tournament. The presence of senior CAF officials and football stakeholders during the competition is expected to make the organisation of the draw more convenient.

The event will determine the preliminary-round fixtures for clubs participating in Africa's two major inter-club competitions. Teams from across the continent will learn their first opponents as they begin their campaigns for continental success in the new season.

The CAF Champions League remains Africa's most prestigious club competition, attracting league champions and top-performing clubs from member associations. The CAF Confederation Cup serves as the continent's secondary club tournament and offers another pathway to continental glory.

Several clubs are already finalising preparations for the new campaign after securing qualification through their domestic league performances and cup competitions. The draw will provide greater clarity on travel schedules, opponents and match dates ahead of the opening rounds.

The timing of the draw is also significant as clubs seek to strengthen their squads during the transfer window and complete pre-season preparations before competitive action begins.

For many teams, navigating the preliminary rounds is crucial to reaching the lucrative group stage phase. The early rounds often produce some of the most competitive fixtures, with clubs battling to secure a place among Africa's elite sides.

CAF is expected to officially confirm the date, venue and draw procedures in the coming weeks. Member associations and participating clubs are awaiting further details as preparations continue for another season of continental football.

The 2026/27 campaign is expected to feature some of the continent's biggest clubs, with the Champions League and Confederation Cup once again offering opportunities for teams to compete on Africa's biggest stage.
