CAF African Schools Football Championship: Officials to Inspect Ikenne and Sagamu Facilities

Posted : 02 February 2026

Officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will arrive in Nigeria on Monday to inspect facilities being prepared to host this year’s CAF African Schools Football Championship Final Phase.

Launched four years ago, the CAF African Schools Football Championship is an annual U15 tournament designed to develop youth football and promote education across the African continent. The competition is supported by a $10 million investment from the Foundation of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and features zonal qualifiers leading to the continental final tournament.

The championship includes both boys’ and girls’ competitions. In the 2024 finals held in Accra, Ghana, Tanzania’s boys and Ghana’s girls emerged victorious. Winners receive up to $300,000 for infrastructural development, and the tournament involves partnerships with organizations such as the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to provide health education.

CAF officials, including Omar Amr (Safeguarding), Fatima Elmissaoui (ASFC Officer), Herve Dassoundo (Marketing & Branding), Mahmoud Amer (Travel/Logistics), Diabate Zakarhiya (Safety & Security), Hend Thabet (Travel & Accommodation), Joshua Knipp (ASFC Competition), and WAFU B Executive Director Philippe Tchere, will inspect proposed competition and ancillary venues in Ikenne-Remo and Sagamu on Tuesday, February 3, and Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

The inspection will focus on Remo Stars Stadium and training pitches in Ikenne-Remo, FC Ebedei Stadium and training pitches in Sagamu, as well as hospitals and hotel facilities within the two towns.
