CAF Moves Edo Queens-Ampem Darkoa Decider to Egypt for October 28 or 29

Posted : 22 October 2026

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has moved the continuation of the WAFU Zone B qualifying final between Nigeria’s Edo Queens and Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies to Egypt. The decisive encounter is scheduled for October 28 or 29, 2026, after the governing body changed the previously advertised venue in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

CAF communicated the decision in a letter addressed to both clubs. The directive follows rulings by the CAF Organising Committee for Women’s Football on September 26 and the CAF Appeal Board on October 16.

The match will resume from the beginning of extra time, with the score at 2-2. Both teams will play two 15-minute periods, with a penalty shootout required if neither side takes the lead after the additional 30 minutes.

CAF has also confirmed that different match officials will oversee the continuation. The exact date, venue and kick-off time are expected to be communicated to both clubs.

The dispute dates back to the original final played on September 5 in Ouagadougou. The teams finished regulation time at 2-2, but the match proceeded directly to a penalty shootout, which Edo Queens won 4-1 to secure what initially appeared to be the WAFU Zone B title and qualification for the continental tournament.

Ampem Darkoa subsequently challenged the outcome, arguing that the competition regulations required extra time before penalties. CAF upheld the protest and annulled the shootout result, ruling that the original 90 minutes remained valid but the additional periods had to be played.

Edo Queens appealed the decision, with the Nigeria Football Federation supporting the challenge. However, CAF’s Appeal Board upheld the annulment on October 16, leaving both teams to settle the contest on the pitch.

The stakes remain high for both sides. The winner will represent WAFU Zone B at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt, scheduled for November 1 to 15.

The successful team will join Group B alongside Moroccan club AS FAR, Mali’s USFAS Bamako and Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies. The outcome will determine whether Nigeria or Ghana secures the regional slot in the continental competition.

For Edo Queens, the continuation offers an opportunity to secure qualification despite the cancellation of their penalty shootout victory. Ampem Darkoa, meanwhile, have another chance to claim the regional ticket after their successful protest.

With the tournament approaching, both clubs must prepare for a decisive 30 minutes of extra time, with penalties potentially required to determine the winner.
