CAF Establishes PAMOJA Oversight Committee for Historic 2027 AFCON Hosting

Posted : 15 May 2026

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially formed the PAMOJA Oversight Committee to manage the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. President Patrice Motsepe met with top government officials and football leaders from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in Nairobi. This historic tournament will be the first edition of the competition to be jointly hosted by three different countries.

The high-level meeting resulted in a signed joint resolution to ensure all three nations remain on schedule. Key attendees included Kenya’s Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Tanzania’s Minister Paul Makonda. Uganda’s State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang also participated in the strategic discussions. The presidents of the three national football federations joined them to confirm their commitment to the regional project.

A strict roadmap has been established with several critical milestones to be met by August 2026. The committee will focus on accelerating stadium construction and improving infrastructure across the East African region. They will also coordinate cross-border logistics involving visas, customs, and immigration to ensure smooth travel for fans. Security, medical readiness, and official venue confirmation are listed as top priorities for the new body.

CAF aims to move the tournament preparations from the planning stage into rapid execution. This centralized committee will provide strategic direction and oversight for all operational services. Recent inspections of proposed training facilities have already taken place to ensure they meet international standards. The 2027 tournament is expected to showcase the cultural diversity and hospitality of the East African community.

Patrice Motsepe expressed confidence in the progress made by the three host nations during his visit. He emphasized that the collaboration between CAF and the governments will lead to a successful tournament. The oversight body will meet regularly to monitor the delivery of essential tournament services. This centralized model is designed to prevent delays and ensure total accountability for the historic event.
