CAF Confederation Cup: Zubair Begins Al Ahly Wad Madani Journey with Tusker Test Looming

Nigerian coach Aliyu Zubair has begun a new international assignment after being unveiled as the Technical Adviser of Sudanese top-flight club Al Ahly Wad Madani.

Zubair was unveiled on Friday in Kigali, Rwanda, where the Sudanese club are conducting their pre-season preparations ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

The appointment follows the coach’s recent departure from Egyptian second-tier outfit Telecom SC, where he enjoyed a productive spell before both parties mutually agreed to end their relationship.

Zubair has signed a two-year contract with Al Ahly Wad Madani and will be expected to use his experience to strengthen the squad and lead the club’s ambitions in domestic and continental football.

His first major assignment will come in the CAF Confederation Cup, where Al Ahly Wad Madani have been drawn against Kenyan side Tusker in the first preliminary round.

Speaking after his unveiling, Zubair described his new role as another major challenge in his coaching career while expressing confidence in the club’s potential.

“Al Ahly Madani is another huge challenge for me. It is a great club with a rich history and high ambitions,” he said.

“I am looking forward to working with the players, the management and the fans to achieve our objectives, especially as the team prepares to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.”

The move represents another significant step in Zubair’s growing coaching career, having worked in different football environments and continued to build his profile outside Nigeria.

For Al Ahly Wad Madani, the arrival of the Nigerian tactician comes at a crucial time as the club seeks to make a strong impression on the continental stage while also pursuing domestic success.

Zubair will now lead the club through the final phase of its Kigali preparations before attention shifts to the Confederation Cup clash with Tusker.

The continental assignment offers the Nigerian an opportunity to further showcase his tactical credentials and strengthen his reputation as an emerging coach on the African football scene.
