The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B) have successfully concluded a major capacity-building workshop in Abuja. This three-day event aimed to empower female football administrators with the necessary tools to professionalize the sport across the sub-region. Participants from various member nations attended the sessions to discuss modern strategies for structural development and sustainable growth.
Aisha Falode spoke on behalf of the attendees during the closing ceremony. She described the programme as a transformative experience that provided practical solutions for regional challenges. Falode highlighted that the innovative ideas shared would significantly impact how the game is managed. She also commended WAFU B for becoming a leading force in the advancement of women’s athletics on the continent.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) played a central role in hosting the international delegation. Deputy General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme represented the NFF leadership during the final proceedings. He expressed strong optimism that the knowledge gained would lead to immediate implementation in home countries. Ikpeme noted that the federation remains committed to supporting such continental initiatives to raise the standard of the game.
WAFU B Executive Director Philippe Tchere praised the NFF for its hospitality and organizational excellence. He acknowledged the vital contributions of CAF facilitators in delivering high-level training. The workshop featured expert guidance from CAF instructors Jules McGeever and Thuba Sibanda. They worked alongside Precious Dede, the former Nigerian goalkeeper who now serves as the WAFU B Football Development Manager.
The event also saw attendance from high-ranking officials including CAF Head of Women’s Football, Meskerem Goshime. Their presence emphasized the importance of the West African bloc in CAF’s broader strategic plan. Discussions focused on increasing participation rates and improving the commercial viability of women’s leagues. The workshop concluded with a commitment from all member associations to maintain the momentum generated in Abuja.
