C2E Secure NWFL Championship Promotion as Isaac Targets Nationwide Title

Posted : 23 August 2026

C2E Sports Academy secured promotion to the NWFL Championship after defeating Kwara United Queens 4-2 in the semi-final of the 2026 NWFL Nationwide Championship in Aba. The Aba-based side also booked a place in the final, where they will face Obosa Queens FA for the tournament title.

Coach Ifeanyi Isaac said promotion was the team's main objective before the competition. With that target achieved, he believes his players can approach the final with less pressure and enjoy the opportunity to compete for the trophy.

“We have achieved our target in this competition, which is promotion,” Isaac said. “We are now going to enjoy the final because the most important thing for us, which is qualification for the Championship, has been achieved.”

C2E had to recover from two setbacks against Kwara United Queens before completing an impressive comeback. Oluwabunkunmi Azeez gave Kwara United an early lead in the third minute, while an own goal from Omobolanle Abdulganiu restored parity shortly before half-time.

Amarachi Nnorom put Kwara United back in front two minutes into the second half. C2E responded through Chidinma Gideon in the 52nd minute before Taiwo Omoniyi's own goal gave the Aba side a 3-2 advantage in the 74th minute.

Agnes Ohuche completed the comeback with an 87th-minute strike. The result continued C2E's impressive attacking run in the competition after they scored 15 goals in their first two group matches, including a 10-1 victory over Bayelsa Princesses and a 5-0 win against Lakeside Queens.

Kwara United coach Abdullahi Ganiyu accepted the defeat but felt the final score did not fully reflect the contest. He also highlighted the value of the tournament for his young squad, which was formed earlier this year and was experiencing this level of competition for the first time.

The second semi-final produced another 4-2 comeback as Obosa Queens FA defeated Onimarg FC. Onimarg established a two-goal advantage through Victoria Yakubu and Adeomo Lovelyn, but Obosa responded before half-time and completed the turnaround after the break.

The result means both C2E and Obosa Queens have secured promotion to the 2027 NWFL Championship. Their final at Enyimba Stadium will now determine the inaugural NWFL Nationwide champion, adding a major prize to an already successful campaign for both sides.
